I am the Founder of The Pocket Advocate, as well as both Tech Guy In A Box and LivingtoRelax.com. Prior to retiring and becoming an entrepreneur, I spent 42 years as an educator in various capacities, including middle school teacher, college professor, and District Technology Coordinator.  Following my time as an educator in the K-12 and college systems, I worked at Illuminate Education, an ed-tech company.

I have trained countless teachers and provided consulting services to several school districts. I have presented at many local, national, and international conferences, including the New Teacher Center, Illuminate User's Conference, Tech Ed, and conferences for National School Boards Association, California League of Middle Schools, California Educational Technology Professionals Association, and National Middle School Association. Rufus has presented at California State Universities San Bernardino, Pomona, and Los Angeles.  My passion is to empower students, teachers, and administrators to use technology to enhance education.

I have been featured in "Psychology Today" for my expertise in the implementation of Common Core State Standards, and co-authored “Yes, You Can!: Advice for Teachers Who Want a Great Start and a Great Finish With Their Students of Color" with my wife, Dr. Gail Thompson.

I am a former coach and briefly played professional baseball in the minor leagues with the Minnesota Twins. I enjoy flying my plane, and I am a FAA Certified Private Pilot.
